Our Original Used Vinyl

At Boiler Room Records, we ensure that the original vinyl we sell is of the highest quality, with accurate grading for every record.

We strive to play all the records we sell - not always possible of course - but the turntable is always spinning.

The majority of our original records are graded VG+ (Very Good Plus) or N/M (Near Mint). We only sell records below VG (Very Good) in exceptional circumstances. To maintain high standards, we use an ultrasonic cleaner for our used vinyl, although time constraints may occasionally limit this process.

We follow to the Discogs grading system:

Mint (M)

Vinyl

Absolutely perfect, never played, possibly still sealed. Used sparingly as a grade. All our new records are Mint.

Sleeve

Perfect in every way, possibly still sealed, never played.

Near Mint (NM or M-)

Vinyl

Nearly perfect, likely never played, with no playback imperfections.

Sleeve

No creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable defects. Inserts should also be in perfect condition.

Very Good Plus (VG+)

Vinyl

50% of Near Mint value. Shows signs of careful handling with minor cosmetic defects, smooth playback, minimal surface wear, slight scuffs, and light scratches. Slight warps acceptable. Label may have minor ring wear or discoloration.

Sleeve

Slight wear, minor corner turn-ups, seam splits. LP cover may have minor wear, cut-out holes, or indentations, nearly Near Mint.

Very Good (VG)

Vinyl

25% of Near Mint value. Pronounced defects, surface noise, groove wear, light scratches affecting sound. Labels may have writing, tape, or stickers.

Sleeve

Shows wear on edges and creases on the spine, seam splits, but structurally solid.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+)

Vinyl

10-15% of Near Mint value. Playable without skipping, but with significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear.

Sleeve

Seam splits, especially on the bottom or spine, with tape, writing, ring wear, or other defects. Noticeable surface noise and "ticks" during playback are almost certain.
