JJerome87 is the solo moniker of British songwriter, musician and frontman of the critically acclaimed Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello-winning band, alt-J.Recorded in LA alongside producer Carlos De La Gaza, a dedicated group of session musicians and a trio of female vocalists, The Canyon is a collection of alt-J (esque) songs with a Californian, Motown, Blues and Gospel energy.
JJerome87 is the solo project of Joe Newman, frontman for alt-J. 'The Canyon' is his first solo album.
“After finishing The Dream in 2022, my writing did not slow down. Between 2022 - 2024 I began building a collection of songs that looked more and more like an Album, more personal and emotionally separate from alt-J. It soon became something I was excited to release if not a little nervous. This is the first time I have recorded outside of alt-J and Charlie Andrew, and so I am eager to know what you all think about it. I have teamed up with LA producer Carlos De La Gaza alongside a dedicated group of session musicians and a trio of female vocalists to deliver alt-J (esque) songs but with a Californian, Motown, blues and Gospel energy.
