Released on 19 October 1979, One Step Beyond… is the record that introduced Madness to the nation. Recorded and mixed in about three weeks at Eden Studios with producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, it carried the 2 Tone sound into the mainstream alongside The Specials’ debut.
Channel 4 viewers voted it No.90 in the 100 Greatest Albums of all time in 2005. It reached No.2 in the UK, No.29 in Australia and No.27 in New Zealand, and also charted in Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway.
