PRODUCT INFORMATION
Epitomising of the cool jazz subgenre, Night Lights is American baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan's whopping 28th album, and his first for the indie major Philips label in 1963. A lyrical and laid-back affair, the cover depicts a skyline resembling New York's, but we'd rather liken the music to a late night Mediterranean scene. The title track, along with choice cuts 'Festive Minor' and 'Wee Small Hours', move through perfectly recorded, stereo-panned bossa nova and post-bop without stress. After the unjustifiably inflated prices of former represses, make sure you cop this one for a fraction; this reissue contains remasters by Kevin Gray from the original Philips tape vault, and an additional inser with photos and words by the album's session bassist Bill Crow.
